MARTIN BIRNBACH
Ph.D. Student
Department of Materials Science and Engineering
Martin is a Ph.D. student in the Materials Science & Engineering department at UConn under
the GAANN fellowship. He completed his B.S.E in Materials Science & Engineering at UConn in
2022. Starting in June 2021 as an undergraduate researcher, Martin worked on electrospinning
nanofibers for solar energy capture. Currently, he studies the relationship between lithium-ion
transport and degradation in cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries utilizing STEM-EELS
and GFIB. In 2022, he received the MSE Undergraduate Outstanding Research Award.
